Mitsubishi Motors NZ makes huge gains in February

  • Mitsubishi first for passenger car sales; second overall with 13.4% market share.

  • Sales reflect a 46.5% year-on-year increase with a total of 1,620 units sold in February.

Mitsubishi Motors’ Outlander (595) and ASX (319) have played a starring role in the company selling more passenger vehicles (1,105) than any other in February.

In total combined sales, Mitsubishi smashed its 30-year record for the second month in a row, by 13%, registering 1,620 units to secure second place overall with a market share of 13.4%.

In commercial sales, its new Express van and Triton models performed strongly against second-placed Ford, securing a close third place.

Reece Congdon, MMNZ Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, said the results reflect the confidence Kiwi motorists have in the brand, the consistently fresh appeal of the range and the high level of service across it 57-strong dealership.

“Before Covid hit last year, we had recorded ten consecutive years of growth, built on the back of a clear focus on customer service and a range that continues to evolve with contemporary tastes and lifestyles,” said Congdon.

“As we register these latest results, the country has again stepped up Covid alert levels. What we have seen following the uncertainty of last year is that customers are looking to invest in brands they trust, and which unlock the potential in their own back yards. We have been delivering on both fronts for many years and our success so far in 2021 is testament to that.

“With new models in the pipeline, we are excited about the potential the rest of the year holds.”
